Cellisten Jakob Kullberg er en af de mest synlige og stilistisk bredtfavnende unge danske instrumentalister. Bosat i Paris, bruger han sin tid på en voksende solokarriere kombineret med kammermusikalsk koncertvirksomhed.’

Studier i Amsterdam, London, Wien, Zagreb og København i perioden 1998-2007. Vinder og prisvinder ved nationale og internationale solist- og kammermusik konkurrencer, samt modtager af Danmarks Radios Lyt til Nyt Prisen i 2009, og Gladsaxe Musikpris 2011.

Har været artist in residence ved flere lejligheder, bl.a. i Rundetårn i 2007, under Carl Nielsen Violin Konkurrencen i 2008, i Den Sorte Diamant i 2009, og har været tilbagevendende solist på markante internationale festivaler som fx Aldeburgh Festivalen og Warsaw Autumn Festival, og vil i 2011 give en række solokoncerter ved Bergen Festspillene.

Som solist har han optrådt med de fleste af de danske symfoniorkestre samt med orkestre i udlandet, og vil i efteråret 2011 have sin debut som solist med Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London.

Har givet mesterkurser i Danmark, Sverige, Norge, Tyskland, Polen, England og i USA og er blevet engageret som gæstelærer på The Royal Academy of Music, London, i 2011/2012. Han har været kunstnerisk leder af det to-årlige mesterkursus Open Strings Cello Academy siden 2004, og blev ansat som timelærer på Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium i 2005.

Living in Paris, Jakob Kullberg is one of the most active and diverse young Danish instrumentalists, enjoying a growing solo career combined with chamber music performances.

Jakob studied in Amsterdam, London, Vienna, Zagreb and Copenhagen from 1998 to 2007, winning prizes at international and national solo and chamber music competitions, and becoming the recipient of Danish Radio’s ’New Sound’ Prize in 2009 as well as Gladsaxe Music Prize 2011.

He has been artist in residence on several occassions a.o. in The Round Tower, Copenhagen in 2007, Carl Nielsen Artist 2008 and in the Black Diamond, Copenhagen in 2009. He has been a recurring artist at prestigious international festivals such as the Aldeburgh Festival and the Warsaw Autumn Festival and will have his debut at Scandinavia’s biggest festival, the Bergen International Festival in Norway in 2011.

He has performed as a soloist with the majority of the Danish Orchestras, has given solo and chamber music performances in most European countries, as well as in the USA and Canada, and will have his debut as a soloist with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London in 2011.

The Danish composer Per Nørgård, with whom Jakob enjoys a unique working relationship, has composed and dedicated several works to him including his 2nd Cello Concerto and his 4th Solo Sonata. Nørgard considers him “one of the single most important interpreters of my music.”

Jakob has given masterclasses in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Poland, England and in the USA, at institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Norwegian Academy of Music, and has been artistic director of the biannual masterclass Open Strings Cello Academy since 2004. He has held a teaching position at the Royal Danish Academy of Music since 2005 and will be working as a guest teacher at the Royal Academy of Music, London in the 2011/2012 academic year.
